On the left are two photos I took with my iPhone and uploaded via the new iPhone Amazon App. Apparently a human looks at the photos of things you see that you might want to buy and tries to match the photo so something amazon sells. The items on the right are the things they felt best matched my photos.
What Amazon Thought I wanted to buy, originally uploaded byBig DumpTruck. So it's a fascinating application and use of human slaves at Amazon, but really, does my USB snowman really look that much like a cat? No, I don't think so. I looked myself in Amazon for the first item (I happen to know the manufacturer, which is cheating, yet) and found of of the various styles they sold: http://snipurl.com/sunbobble posted by Jody Permalink | 2 comments Sunday, December 09, 2007
I need to get a better understanding of anatomy because I still don't understand how one side of your nose can be completely stuffy and icky for days at a time while the other side is free and clear. Does that make any sense? Aren't your nostrils just two tubes going into the same place? Like the in and out doors to the kitchen at Denny's, so to speak.
While sitting around and being lazy this morning I updated my Amazon "Be Like Jody" store. There you can find some of things you should buy if you want to be like me. I have a ton of things that I should add to it, but it's a good start. There were two items on the old version that I said I wanted, that I needed up update because eventually got upgraded versions of both of them. So go ahead and be like me. And remember, if you use my link to get to Amazon, for whatever you are buying, I can make a few pennies and I will love you forever. And you want me to love you forever, don't you? posted by Jody Permalink | 0 comments Thursday, June 28, 2007
Just got a note from Amazon that I didn't make enough money from referrals to get a payment this month. I've gotten the same message for the past several months. The big problem with that is that the minimum threshold to get a payment is only ten dollars. Ten bucks! Wow, it appears nobody is using the old DumpTruck to drive to the Amazon mall. And nothing from the other clickable ads that are over there on the right that I'm not allowed to talk about for fear the company in question will send me to Six Flags to have my feet cut off. And I beg you, do NOT go over there and start clicking because the sudden upswing in traffic will probably set off some kind of alarm that I picture being akin to the ones in the cooling towers of a nuclear power plant. Don't harsh my mojo by clicking or they will kick my butt out of the program. But say, in a week or two, if something comes up that looks interesting (and by interesting, I mean something that you really and truly are interested in learning more about or purchasing) by all means. That's what it's there for. I will throw in a few key words to make it interesting. Gumballs. Sandals. Beach weather. Inflatables. Home brewed Beer. (Wow, that would make for a heck of a party, eh?)
So maybe I should come up with some other methods of making money by doing nothing. Possible options include

I was reading Dilbert creator Scott Adams' blog and he said Google Alerts tell him when people like me are talking about him ("Hi Scott!"). I have had Google Alerts turned on for about two years now, and seriously, the only thing it ever tells me is my reviewer rank on Amazon.com. Which isn't all that great, by the way. Maybe I should review a couple of things, and try to make the reviews helpful while I'm at it.
Before any of you guys feels the need to point out that he's an internationally famous, and might I add, beloved cartoonist, and I'm some slightly crazy woman who can't quite keep up with the dishes while trying to become an internationally famous and beloved writer-photographer-interpretive dancer-Wii Champion. Well, I'd write more about this, but I think it best if I head over to Amazon and review a couple of things. And then I'm going to play Virus2 for a while (http://www.rfshq.com/forum/games/virus2.swf). Please don't blame me if you get hooked. posted by Jody Permalink | 0 comments Sunday, March 04, 2007
I am on my own site a lot, and I tend to use my links to find stuff at Amazon because it's right there. You know, I'm all about ease of use. What I realized is that Amazon dinged me on my commissions for all the times I clicked my own link to buy something. That's not cool. Granted, in the old days, my readers used my links for EVERYTHING and one time I got a check for almost a hundred dollars. That certainly helped out with my hosting fees back in the day.
So instead of using that link when I'm buying stuff (and trust me, I buy a lot of stuff) I am looking to use someone else's link to buy stuff. If you are an Amazon Associate, drop a comment with your link and I'll check out your site. If you are already making money from advertising, be honest and mention that. I'll share the love around, but I'd rather hit the little guys first, as I'm a little guy. I make ZERO money doing this, so I know what it's like. And conversely, feel free to use my links when you are shopping. What are friends for? posted by Jody Permalink | 2 comments |
