Friday Morning. It’s Shrek day! My mom is actually going to pick up a copy for us, because it’s easier for her to run out in the middle of the day, seeing as she and my dad are retired. I tried to use the movie as a Mookie bribe to get him to poop in the potty, but he’s just really much smarter than I am.

My novel is only 1200 words. I wanted to do 2000 yesterday. I guess that means I have to to 2800 today, huh? I’d better write at least five or ten of them every time I have a minute today.

My friend has been in labor for 13 hours now, unless she had the baby and her husband hasn’t gotten to a computer yet. I’m DYING here waiting for news! She’s a real 20th century gal. This morning she posted a note to us between contractions.

Almost 1000 words done. I’m aiming for 2000 a day. Sure it’s easy on the first day. Wait till I have to remember all the characters and what they’ve done etc.

But I know the secret. If I start going horribly astray, I’ll just say that everything to that point was a horrible dream, and go off in a different direction. Hey, it’s not against the rules.

So I’m working on this late from work, because this way I’m not interrupted by Mr. Dump and Mookie and whatever video is in heavy rotation this week. But I have to go home and eat now. I think we’re having the California Pizza Kitchen Pizzas made famous on the home page.

Mookie doesn’t eat candy so I have a whole bag to myself. And what’s up with the people who gave out 1 individually-wrapped lifesaver?

I started the novel! I wrote 250 words this morning while Mr. Dump was taking his shower. So that means I started before 6am. What is up with THAT? Am I still on daylight savings time?

I honestly didn’t have a direction for it. No plot, because we weren’t supposed to work on it until today. So I wrote the page (longhand, it was 256 words on the pad I was using) and then, while I showered and got dressed, I thought about going from first person to third, then finally decided first is better, and I now have a basic idea on the plot. Enough to get the character going, but not enough that I’ll have to figure out how to get from A to B to C. I’ll get from A to B and then SHE can decide if she wants to go to C.
