Commuting in the Fog

Commuter Fog 1, originally uploaded by Big DumpTruck.

Hey, 117 pals, did you all have fun checking out the fog this morning? I had my Powershot in the car with me, and whipped it out in Bolton Flats. Any time I had to stop, I snapped a picture. I uploaded the five best ones to flickr (just use the link under this photo). I have to say, I would have been happy to just have one that I liked. To have five worthy of uploading...that was the prize for the day!

This makes up for yesterday. I got halfway to work before I realized that the dog was still in the car with me. Oh my God, when am I going to learn the benefits of owning a talking dog versus Mr. Silent?

Let's Pretend It's Spring Break for a Moment

Oh, wait, it is! Man oh man, my fellow Leominster to points-east commuters must have had fun with the 117 portion of the commute like I did. I am guessing that the entire town of Lancaster will be completely under water by tomorrow morning. I wish to God I'd had my camera...the new lake behind the big yellow Thayer Conservatory (or whatever it's called now...I haven't been there since my sister was about 11 years old) made my jaw drop.

The normal "avoid Bolton Flats" route was also closed due to flooding. That's a bad sign. Looking at the alternate, alternate route, that one might be out by tomorrow. Goodbye Lancaster, it was nice knowing you.

What Do They Use at Dunkies?

On the drive to work this morning (when else?) I heard a Cumberland Farms commercial for their coffee. You know, from that addict who, when her kids are bored, takes them to Cumbies for a "fountain drink". Because nothing eases boredom more than your mom taking you to a convenience store for a sugar and caffeine-based beverage!

This morning she was telling us all that she stupidly thought the coffee at Cumbies couldn't match what they sell at coffee shops, until she tried it. She stated that they use "imported beans". Well doesn't that sound classy! I have to say, I think that even Sanka is made with imported beans, but I could be wrong. Maybe farmers in Indiana have plowed under their corn and wheat to grow coffee. The only domestic coffee I'm aware of (and I'll admit I'm no expert) is Kona, from Hawaii, and that stuff is high quality. Not that people think of Hawaii when they think of something being domestic, of course. Anyhoo, God Bless Cumberland Farms for importing coffee beans. It's about time someone had the nerve to do so!

When You Have 2 Hours to Think

I had the really pleasant "2 hours to drive what normally takes 40 minutes" commute this morning. People, if you can't drive in the snow, stay home and let the rest of us get to work. Of course, I have four new tires on my van, so I'm feeling a little better about driving in bad weather. Nothing like fresh treads to take your mind of hydroplaning. Not that I'm a risky driver; I most certainly am not. But there was nothing out on 117 today that should have caused it to back up the way it did. Someone is to blame, and when I find that person, I am going to give him/her SUCH an Indian burn!

Oh wait, is it politically incorrect to call it an Indian burn? I'm sorry. I meant no disrespect. Do tell, dear readers...what is the politically correct way to refer to an Indian burn?

So while I was stuck in the car for two hours, I had some kind of great idea for what to talk about today, but somehow I forgot what it was. I could make something up, but it wouldn't be the great thing that I thought of. You know, the great thing that would catapult me to the top of the personal website heap. Make ME blogging queen 2007. But I can't remember what it was. So I continue to flounder in obscurity. In 11 years of doing this, can't I be the queen at least once?

Other ordinary stuff:
Video Game Review: Sonic and the something something for Wii: I haven't played the game-game (sorry!) but I have played the really great bunch of party games a la Mario Party. In fact, I like them better than Mario Party 7. I've heard Mario Party 8 (due out soon?) isn't what it could be. So A- for Sonic's party games, or what I've seen of it so far. [Note: If you buy this at Target it comes with an exclusive DVD with a Sonic Comic book on it. We took a look and it's not worth buying just for that, unless the Target price is lower than wherever else you shop.]

Music: John Mayer Continuum A. I love it. Mr. Dump loves it. What more do you need?
