Wow, that was a fast lunch hour! I should have started writing a novel a long time ago! I have 9127 words now, aiming for 10,000.

Part of me wants to notify the local Leominster/Fitchburg/Worcester papers that someone in town is participating in this world-wide effort, just to get this hits to this page up a bit, but that seems pretty self-serving. So if the local press reads this, you can just contact me by writing to jody@bigdumptruck.com.

One cool thing is that I got really mad at someone who works in my building today, so I used their name for a really hateful person in the novel…and now I feel better!

Good morning! The Snakes win the World Series, and all is right with the world!

Okay, my goal today is to hit 10,000 words total, which will mean I’m 20% done. Do not point out that it also means I am 80% not done. I haven’t had my coffee yet. I’m at 8426 right now, but will not be able to put much effort in except for lunch, because I am at work after all.

I’m going to bed. 8118 words! Holy cow, I’m looking at the time for the last entry. That’s a lot of work in only a half hour. Of course it’s all crap, but the mantra of this project is “quantity, not quality.” I can do that.

Wow! I just checked and I have 7468 words now! I am rocking and rolling! What helped was a change of scenery. I put the laptop on a small table, threw a fake log in the fireplace and let ‘er rip. I got into a whole Lousia May Alcott groove except she wrote in the attic in longhand. Well, there’s always the next novel for that, except I think I hear something scurrying up there last night, and we live in a cape so at the highest point there’s probably only 3 feet of clearance up there.

I’m going to write for another 10-15 minutes and go up to bed and do some reading. I’ve been poking through my “library” looking for good books written in the 1st person for stylistic hints. I had just finished a good one that’s at work, so I’ll take that home tomorrow.
