Lucky Day

I think I forgot to mention here – I got a call yesterday from my bank that I had won their weekly contest. The prize was a $20 gift card to Shaws (where the bank is located). How cool is that??! I mean, I was suspect when she asked if I wanted to sign up for the drawing, you figure it’s like those forms where you sign up to win replacement windows and basically all you’re doing is signing yourself up for mailing list and telemarketer hell. (You all knew that, right? Don’t sign up for drawings at the home show either.)

So I picked up the gift card this morning and immediately used it. I did buy some stuff I would have bought anyway, pasta (on sale), Barqs (on sale), chicken nuggets (not on sale). But I did treat myself to a couple of things I wouldn’t have bought normally. Is that bad? I got some Ragu Alfredo sauce, Mint Skittles and a bag of Cheetohs. I don’t think I’ll be eating them all at once, before you jump to conclusions.

Reminiscing

I remember back when I was in college, must have been my sophomore year, that there was a February Saturday that hit almost 70 degrees. I remember this because we went to the drug store and bought a kite and I wrote one of my best poems ever about that day. It was outstanding, it just what everyone needed to make February disappear for just the day.

So it’s a Saturday now about 18 years later (I was going to say less but why lie) and the high today is 14 and the low is -7. There is no end of this weather in site. The best we might do is apparently on Feb 21st, when they predict a high of 40. Then it goes back down to a high of 27.

I would like a 50 degree day. Just one. I’m not even asking for 60, just 50. No windchill. No snow. I can’t believe how cold this winter has been. I really really need some warm out there. I heard birds this morning and it felt exactly like a spring morning with the sun and the tweeting. But I knew better.

Animal Crossing

Tammy, my person in Animal Crossing, really needs some decent furniture. I was psyched to get a bed though…she will actually sleep on it! I tried doing some of the suggestions given by the Dump fan in the earlier post about A.C. but I got tired of having to get through all the stupid screens to keep creating cities that don’t have pears. Is there any code or something someone from “out there” can email me that the game would interpret as someone sending me a pear in the mail?

p.s. Why can’t I mail fish? Maybe I don’t like the guy who lives in the house across from me….

Staying In For VD

Junior and I are not going out this evening. He’s low on funds, and well, it’s friggin cold out there. Like way below zero nose freezing cold. I am so DONE with the wind chill. We were going to go to Barnes and Noble but I decided we’re in for the night. We’ve already been out most of the day – he had his first swim lesson this morning (EXCELLENT job, handled it like a pro! I love his swim instructor, I think that’s the kind of guy Junior needs to get over his loathing of getting his face wet) and then we spent the rest of the day with his cousins. I’m tired, actually. I still haven’t shaken enough of this illness…actually right now I feel like just a teeny bit worse than yesterday. I don’t think I got enough sleep last night.

Anyway, my suggestion for anyone staying in is to watch Nickelodeon at 9pm tonight for a brand new Fairly Oddparents Love-themed show. I love Fairly Oddparents…it’s one of the best shows on tv, bar none. So it’s a new one and I think you should all take a moment to enjoy it!

p.s. Yes, I got flowers today – from my niece and nephew. My sister let them pick the flowers out, and I got some little purple flowers that are usually meant to be used as filler in a bouquet, like statice (?). However, my niece insisted on these for me, because we both like purple and I love them SO much more because she insisted on them! Thanks sweetie!
