Why is it that pizza places feel they don’t need to listen to you when you order a pizza? We always order one with light cheese. Always. But tonight it was just grossly cheese-covered. I’m so annoyed, because I was really looking forward to it. If I wanted to eat a big ball of mozzerella, I’d buy it at the store like that.

But I’d rather have a hunk of havarti.

Hey, I’m doing the old family history thing. My aunt gave me an envelope full of stuff that some guy had mailed my grandmother on research on the Macaulay family. Turns out I come from good Scottish stock, I have Highlander forebears!

Donald Macaulay, b. 1798 in N. Uist Hebrides Islands, Scotland and his wife Christena Ferguson, b. 1803 in N.

Uist, immegrated to Cape Breton, specifically Port Morien (previously known as “Cow Bay”) in 1832. Their daughter Christene was born in Scotland. In Canada, she married Archie MacDonald (whose father had the worst name ever…Donald MacDonald) and their son Hector is my great-grandfather. This is my paternal grandmother’s family.

I need to do the research on Hector’s wife Ellen McKay (Mackay?), who actually came straight to the US from Scotland. I want to get more information on who she came with, and why. Too bad I probably won’t be able to find out how and where she and Hector met. One of their children is still living (my aunt Irene) but Ellen died 4 days after giving birth to her, so I just don’t know that she’ll have any information on her mother’s family.

And that’s what I did last night! Wrote out a summary from like 100 pages of stuff about Donald Macaulay’s decendants. Unfortunately, there was more stuff about their other children, because the person who did the research was related to one of their sons.

I’ve already got astute readers trying to help me narrow down the list I posted yesterday. I’ll go back and edit the entries to reflect what people have told me.

I commented to a co-worker that I should designate one day a week as Chinese Food Day and head south for lunch. Eventually, I should find it, right?

I was poking around on the web looking for references to King Garden, THE best chinese restaurant ever, which closed about six months ago. I still cry myself to sleep. If it matters at all, when a local chef was interviewed a few years ago in the also defunct Worcester Phoenix, he said it was his favorite place to eat out. SEE? It wasn’t just me.

So I know the owner just had trouble with the landlords up here, and that he made a silly business decision about his hours, but I heard he has a location in either Westboro or Marlboro. I need to find out where it is (it’s probably just a hole in the wall take-out place, but I’ll eat in my car.) It’s a quest. I must weep at the owner’s feet and beg him to come back to the Leominster/Fitchburg area.

Okay, so some research shows me it might be one of THESE places:

In Marlborough:

BEIJING GARDEN, 89 Broad St,

CHEZ SIAM RESTAURANT, 280 E Main St,

ESCARGOT RESTAURANT, 231 Main St,

GOLDEN UNICORN RESTAURANT INC, 735 Boston Post Rd E,

HUNAN DELIGHT, 200 Boston Post Rd, Sharon thinks it’s probably not this place

MEE KING RESTAURANT, 46 Main St,

THAI COCONUT RESTAURANT, 50 Cotting Ave,

or in Westborough,

CHENG-DU RESTAURANT, 157 Turnpike Rd, It’s not this place, but this is my favorite spot AFTER King Garden. I guess that moves it up to first place, huh?

HONOLULU RESTAURANT, 160 Turnpike Rd, I agree with a reader that it’s not this place.

JADE GARDEN RESTAURANT, 84 Turnpike Rd,

MANDARIN WESTBORO INC, 57 E Main St, Probably not this one either

ROSE LEE’S CHINESE CUISINE, 196 Turnpike Rd,

THAI POCHANA RESTAURANT, 21 South St,

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it’s 2002. We’re already into the third year that doesn’t start with 19 (since I was born, duh), and I’m floored by that. How can we be in 2002? I don’t even remember much of 2001…I mean, I know I was there and did things, but cripes, that was fast. I would like the years to slow down a little. It doesn’t help that my son turns 4 in less than a week. I really want to freeze time.
