Fish Stick Night

It’s fish stick night at Chez Dump. I can’t tell you the last time I had fish sticks. But we’re having them tonight, and I think that’s great. I’m trying to remember what we would have had in elementary school to go with them. I’d call my sister to ask but I don’t think she’s home right now. Okay, I know she isn’t. So maybe some fruit cup? I don’t think we have any fruit cup in the house, but I have some blueberries we bought yesterday. That’s a little classy to try to recreate the school cafeteria experience. I just realized that what we need is tater tots, and we don’t have any.

I hope to remedy that problem soon.

Junior’s baseball team is on a horrible downward spiral. I don’t think they are going to win a spot in the tournament playoffs, but hey, at least they’re getting a chance to play.

  1. Fish stick night rocks, just ask my kids. OF course, we have Fish Monday every week (in the era of fresh frozen fish that is NOT a problem, although I never got my whale hunting, boat building, ocean fishing grand father to ever buy into that – may he rest in peace). The kids are furious if we have to skip Fish Monday and serve, say hot dogs or pasta instead. Smiley fries goes well with, as does curly fries , shredded carrots with lemon dressing, and green beans. Maybe not your school cafeteria variety, but it works for us here at camp Wakefield. TGIM tomorrow. Although, I made promises of pasta with shrimp in pink sauce – yeah, I know, shrimp are not fish, but we are not THAT picky.

  2. We always had French fries at home when I was growing up with fish sticks. And..um, ketchup as the vegetable. I’m a child of the Reagan years. Or maybe some canned corn or green beans.

    Now I’m hungry!

  3. If fish sticks are fish fingers (and I’m still trying to work out where a fish’s arms are); we had them too the other day for the first time in years. My mum always served them with mashed potato and parsley sauce (!)

  4. I think green beans and tater tots are probably the way to go with fish sticks (fish fingers for Anji).

Can you believe I’m the only person in my house who likes tater tots? It’s a travesty!

  5. We always had Mac & Cheese with our fish sticks. Actually, I think that's the only meal I knew how to prepare as a teenager.

Mmmm tator tots sound pretty tasty.

  6. Hi Kimberly, welcome! I saw you were from Tyler and started to put 2 and 2 together, cause I only know one other crazy psycho from Tyler!

We had mac and cheese last night with burgers (we’re on the recession diet these days) so had to go with fries the night before.

  7. Use to munch on fish sticks and tater tots.. found some laying around in the freezer last week and tried them. Guess they “used” to taste good.. Guess never again… Jerry
