It is with great sadness that I report the death of my only remaining grandparent, my grandmother, Liz. She was diagnosed with liver cancer in early summer, and has been under hospice care for the past few months. Last Monday night (12/21) she had her usual Monday night dinner for my dad and brothers, but they said she was a little disoriented. Early Tuesday morning she fell twice, and from then on she remained in bed in a semi conscious state. She died early Wednesday morning (12/30).

I've attached our last photo of Liz (from summer 2008), as well as her obituary.

Elizabeth Lee Coward Crutchfield, 84, retired nurse, former U.S. Army Captain and widow of Cecil Leo Crutchfield, died Dec. 30, 2009 at home. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 6 at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome at the home during the wait.
Liz was a guardian angel to her many friends and family. She leaves a daughter, Stephanie Wolf of Memphis, sons John Butler of Memphis and Delton Crutchfield of Blue Mountain, Miss., nieces Jennifer Coward and Carol Cable, nephews Mike Coward and Tommy Smith, seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, M.L. Coward, mother Ethel Davis Coward, brothers Horace Coward and Cecil Coward, sisters Bethel Smith and Helen Evangelist, a son, Edward Leo Crutchfield and a grandson, Tommy Butler.
Donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice.
