Jody has a New Pen, and Here are the Birth Photos!

Photo 1: One of these two hunks of olivewood will be my pen. I picked olivewood because I love olives. I am hoping the wood smells like olives. I am hoping that if I put the pen in my mouth because my hands are full, that it will taste like olives. Like the martini fiasco, I assume I will be sorely disappointed.

Photo 2: Wood is drilled and the tubes are glued in. The wood is squared so the edges are even with the tubes for turning. The writing on the wood is so he knows which parts are which. - it saves time and prevents mistakes. That part of the wood will be long gone by the time I get it.

Photo 3: The wood is chucked up on the mandrel. I'm taking Matt's word for that, because I have no idea what "chucked up on the mandrel" means. "Up-chucked on the [Barbara] Mandrell" would be more understandable to me. Silly woodworkers.

Photo 4: The mandrel is mounted on the lathe. Isn't lathe a great word? Lathe. Lathe. Lathe.

Photo 5: The post-turning and finishing, off the lathe. Lathe. Lathe.

The finished product. Mine is the one on the top. The one on the bottom is his sad little brother. Sad because he will never know Jody's sweet, sweet carresses.

WANT YOUR OWN HAND-TURNED WOOD PEN? MATT is setting up a "shop" for them on Etsy. Tell him you heard about his store from the Big DumpTruck!
