5104. I'm going to bed now.
posted by J L 10:27 PM

I'm back from my "date." Mookie hung out with grandma and grandpa at their house for 90 minutes while we went to the Cornerstone Restaurant in Leominster. I hadn't been there in years, and I can't remember why it's not on our list of places to go. Anyway, both of us had EXCELLENT meals, great desserts (even the decaf was fresh!) and I had some heavenly pino grigio, my favorite wine. I know it's getting trendy now, but I liked it before it was trendy.

Oh, so now I'm writing a bit more before bed while Mr. Dump watches Arizona kick the living crap out of the Yankees. 10 to nothing. In the 3rd inning! Oh, wait. Now it's 11 to nothing. Maybe they should just call the game like they do in little league.

Okay, I'm at 4379, aiming for 4800 before I head off to bed.

4039. I thought I'd have more by now. I had a goal of 5000 total by the end of the day today. I have to go to the grocery store now, and I don't know how much time I'm going to put in tonight. Oh well, you can only do so much, right?

3450 words total so far. I'm getting a SLOW start this morning. Too much going on around here. I've got laundry load number 4 in the washing machine, and we've already spent quality time outside with the neighbor watching the backhoe did up a hole in the front lawn for a streetlight. Mr. Dump is not amused, but the guy did tell me that they'lll put loam and seed down when they're done. Meaning that will be the only decent patch in the front.

I did ask if he would accidently dig up the part of the lawn nearest the driveway, or toss a few tulip bulbs in the open hole when they are filling it, and he just laughed at me. Sheesh, I have to do everything myself.

I'm up, I'm up. It's raining. Pooh. Everyone here is getting sick, so this could be a fun weekend. In order to avoid working on the novel I have been cleaning the house. This could be the cleanest the house has been since we moved in by the end of the month.

Chapter 1 is done! It might actually become a prologue during the post-November editing cycle. But it's [checking] 2979 words making up 9 pages.

Prior to this, the longest any "novel" of mine has been is about 20 pages. THe problem is that I would go back and edit and second guess and just start to hate what I'd written. With this book, I try to stop in the middle of a sentence so I can force myself to start writing again, if only to finish the sentence. And I don't read any further back than 2 pages when starting up. It's working for me so far.

Okay, belly full of chinese food (GOD BLESS MR. DUMP!) and I have to write some more. This is already tedious. I hope I don't end up hating my main character. 2441 as of right now.

Is everyone having a good day? TGIF and stuff. I hit the 2000 word mark that I was supposed to finish on the 1st, meaning that now I only have the 2000 to write for today. That's about 5-6 pages of stuff, double-sided.

I don't yet know if the story is any good, but at least it's interesting to write. That's all I can tell you for now.

p.s. I promised my co-worker I wouldn't tell everyone that we got stopped for speeding on the way to get lunch. So shhhh.

Welcome Gwen! 8.5 pounds and 21 inches! Now your parents can see who's really in charge! Hugs to the new parents and grandparents on their first child/grandchild! Try not to spoil her too much, okay guys? Remember, she can't play with that Rokenbok set you want until she's five.

Friday Morning. It's Shrek day! My mom is actually going to pick up a copy for us, because it's easier for her to run out in the middle of the day, seeing as she and my dad are retired. I tried to use the movie as a Mookie bribe to get him to poop in the potty, but he's just really much smarter than I am.

My novel is only 1200 words. I wanted to do 2000 yesterday. I guess that means I have to to 2800 today, huh? I'd better write at least five or ten of them every time I have a minute today.

My friend has been in labor for 13 hours now, unless she had the baby and her husband hasn't gotten to a computer yet. I'm DYING here waiting for news! She's a real 20th century gal. This morning she posted a note to us between contractions.

Almost 1000 words done. I'm aiming for 2000 a day. Sure it's easy on the first day. Wait till I have to remember all the characters and what they've done etc.

But I know the secret. If I start going horribly astray, I'll just say that everything to that point was a horrible dream, and go off in a different direction. Hey, it's not against the rules.

So I'm working on this late from work, because this way I'm not interrupted by Mr. Dump and Mookie and whatever video is in heavy rotation this week. But I have to go home and eat now. I think we're having the California Pizza Kitchen Pizzas made famous on the home page.

Mookie doesn't eat candy so I have a whole bag to myself. And what's up with the people who gave out 1 individually-wrapped lifesaver?
posted by J L 2:24 PM

I started the novel! I wrote 250 words this morning while Mr. Dump was taking his shower. So that means I started before 6am. What is up with THAT? Am I still on daylight savings time?

I honestly didn't have a direction for it. No plot, because we weren't supposed to work on it until today. So I wrote the page (longhand, it was 256 words on the pad I was using) and then, while I showered and got dressed, I thought about going from first person to third, then finally decided first is better, and I now have a basic idea on the plot. Enough to get the character going, but not enough that I'll have to figure out how to get from A to B to C. I'll get from A to B and then SHE can decide if she wants to go to C.

Day three of the <anthrax, cold and I found out something important last night. See, I have a small spray bottle of decongestant, you know, like Afrin, that I only use in dire emergencies, because, well, grandma was hooked on the stuff and I don't need that monkey on my back.

Anyway, I took some last night. And it did just the WORST job of keeping my nose functional. After inspecting the bottle this morning, I realize that when something expires in 1999, you should just toss it out. *sigh*

I get to start writing my NaNoWriMo! novel tomorrow! I have NO idea how I'll make this happen. And I also realized my company Christmas party is November 30th, meaning I can't even stay up until midnight cranking out words on the last day! Well, I could, but they might not invite me back next year.

I have to assume hits to the main Dump page are going to be down significantly after today. The number one reason my hits were so high in October is that Google attached me to the search phrase "Spongebob Squarepants Costume" just because I had talked about it in two different issues. Uh oh. Now it's written again. More hits next year.

I'm going to miss all the traffic. I don't know that I'll have anything that popular for Thanksgiving. Maybe I should write the words "Funny Thanksgiving Poem" and see if that makes it out to the search engines.

Oh no! Mookie thinks Moe is funny! This doesn't bode well for my future.

I don't care what anyone says, Shemp is my least favorite Stooge. (And why does it seem so WRONG to me that they show the 3 Stooges on AMC?)

I am NOT turning on the webcam until after this cold passes. I have great fear that I look as bad as I feel.

Okay, I am feeling a little better, but I have a whole nose thing going on and saline spray is not making the white hot poker feeling go away. So the web cam isn't going on. Maybe tomorrow, when it's okay to look bad. I'm thinking a little black lipstick and I'm all that and a bag of candy.

Was over at Ground Zero Cam and I'm stunned every time I see the volume of stuff that has to be picked through and removed. Unbelievable. Maybe I'll use this to keep myself angry, so I can remember why we are at war.

Christmas is sneaking up on is. Less than 2 months to decide what you're going to buy me from my Wish List. No pressure. The low end items are just as cool as the Elph digital camera, although I do share my love based on how much you spend on me.

Or something like that.

MMmm. One bowl of Progresso homestyle chicken soup (with the little pearl pasta and carrots) and I'm ready for my nap! Yes, now I'm home from work, exhausted. The soup was just the thing. I don't even care if people are now official anit-progresso just because of their stupid ad campaign. There are still a couple of flavors of soup that just make me happy.

I poked around on this morning to learn more about the new Smash Mouth cd which is due out in 2 weeks or so. Of course, they don't even have a picture of the cover art or a song list. Seems odd, considering the thing should be, well, done by now. Two weeks is only two weeks. I'd think the cover art should be available.

Smash Mouth has the distinction of being the one group my step-daughter and I both really like. Usually she's listening to *N Sync or Backstreet Boys or Aaron Carter. Eegah.

Don't get too close to the monitor. I think I finally caught Mookie's cold. Plus he still has his a bit. Blegh.

Oh, but the one thing that made me feel GREAT today is that when I checked my mail this morning there was a note from a friend of mine from High School who I haven't seen, well, since high school. She signed on to Classmates and because I'm a member, I sent her a note. That's just so cool. She was one of my favorite people in high school...always nice to everyone, funny, etc etc. (I'd better stop now in case she reads this and thinks I'm going to stalk her.) But seriously, now I've been in touch (email) with about 4 or 5 people from my high school class from being on So cool.

Mookie and I are going to be in a Halloween parade today. He'll be in his dinosaur costume, and I'll wear the wizard costume I wore last year. I'm saving the Ren princess costume for the wedding reception on the 3rd.

I'd blustery outside. I hope that by noon, it's a few degrees warmer, else I should look for a wizard cape make out of bear fur.

I painted my fingernails purple and have deep purple eyeshadow and black lipstick. I'm considering this a trial run for Wednesday, when I wear this getup to work. I hope they encourage dressing up. I haven't actually checked yet.

I knew that Denny's was hazardous to your health, but I didn't think it was hazardous the way the Sentinel & Enterprise reported this morning. Ten people, minding their own business, eating lunch, had a car land on them.

I'm staying out of Denny's. I like my lunch projectile-free. At least most of the time.
