Throwing Little Thought Pebbles at
Happy ThanksgivingHappy Thanksgiving to all our American friends! Eat, drink and be merry! If you want to know what I'm thankful for, you can check the article I wrote for my friend Mary Shomon's about.com Thyroid site. Of course, now you all know more about me that you needed to. I'm going to write another one. I have the idea all captured on paper. But I've got 35 hours of stuff recorded on my Tivo and it's all set to expire in two days, so I have to watch all of that first. I'll explain that a little more below. My TivoI could write a whole issue of the DumpTruck just about our new DirecTV with a Tivo Receiver combo, but I don't want to make those of you stuck with crappy Cablevision (or similar) too jealous. So I'll just say that I can't believe what I've been missing. And while we thought we really needed TVLand, what we REALLY needed was the two Nick channels, the Toon Disney, Odyssey, BOOM and the HBO Family. My goodness, I'm beside myself. And with the Tivo hooked in, I just pull up a listing of everything that's currently on, or will be on, no matter what time, and if I think I might have the slightest interest in viewing in, BOOP, I hit select and it will be recorded. Including classics like The Electric Company, Gumby, and Atom Ant. I thought 35 hours would be more than enough for any human but I think I was wrong. See, I record tons of stuff but you can't watch it all until the weekend, really. And then you can't watch most of what I'm taping until Michael's asleep. Basically, I'm going to have to pull an all-nighter to catch up. It would help if I deleted the 10 episodes of Michael's favorite shows (currently Spongebob Squarepants, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Rolie Polie Olie). But see, it's SO much easier than having to pop in a videotape and rewind or fast-forward. A few button pushes and BOOP, there is his show. I fear he's getting spoiled. But so am I. Rewind, fast forward, and all of it saved on computer chip. I guess I'll try to be more selective with what I tape, but it's pulling into THE best time of year for watching TV. I already have Scrooged Tivo'd and have scheduled some Disney special and at least one of the versions of A Christmas Carol. I think I'll throw all the Christmas stuff onto a videotape so I can keep recording new stuff. The GrinchI don't think I'm going to get to see the Jim Carrey Grinch movie while it's in theaters, so I'll just have to live with the cartoon version. Which we watched 6 times in two days, and would have watched more but Mama said "No, not again" to Mookie's pleading. He LOVES that cartoon. And he's not scared by The Grinch at all, which I was wondering. So a big Thumbs Up from my almost-3-year-old and a hearty thanks to the Cartoon Network for running it every night at 8pm for a whole week! Job ChangeI have taken a new job, which is pretty scary considering I've been here at IMI for almost 12 years. I did want to share with you how cool my coworkers are. For a going away gift they got me a year's subscription to the National Enquirer. And they sent it to my new work address. I'm going to miss working with EVERYONE here. But I'm looking forward to the new job, the new, shorter commute, and the fact that there's going to be a cafeteria right in my building. Ahhh, hot lunch! The Big DumpTruck Store
