Back to Normal

Good-bye Alewife, it's been fun. I start my three month gig in Worcester on Wednesday, and I'm very pleased about it. I'm not going to talk much about it here because, well, I am not a permanent employee (yet), plus I know that at least one person visited the site after they got my resume so maybe everyone in the department I'm joining signed up for the newsletter and they are all reading this right now (*waving*).

In the Karma department, the person who got me the job at Vibren was also laid off,but she'll be joining me for the three months at this gig. So her good deed paid off. Or maybe it's a punishment, because now she has another three months of dealing with me. I'll wave to her too. (*waving*)

I don't know how I'll be set up at this place. I assume they have web access, seeing as I'm creating html content. But they may not give it to the hired hands.

Business Cards

You know what's funny? I had a box of Big DumpTruck business cards made up a while ago and I never really had any reason to hand any out. When I started BirchBark I bought business card paper for my inkjet and made up my own. Here's the thing - I keep running out of them. I didn't think I was handing out that many, but maybe now I'm more aware that every human I meet might need my services. Nobody leaves the room without a business card.

I have to remember to make up some more tonight or tomorrow, because I gave out the last one today. I guess that's a good thing, right?

Rotate and Balance

My dad told me that I need to rotate my tires. I think he's right. Well, I didn't do it fast enough for him or my mom, so they made an appointment for me to have it done tomorrow at "their" tire place.

So what time did they book my appointment on my one day off between gigs? Eight-thirty in the morning. Niiice. Thanks so much. You know they thought I would just want to get it over with so I would have the rest of the day. But seriously, since I was about 12, I have not been a morning person. And tomorrow Jr. is staying home with me because this is my last "day off" for a while, and I thought it might be nice. So now, instead of a leisurely morning playing with his race car set while I catch up on email and download MP3s, I have to get both of us up, dressed, fed and at the tire place for 8:30. All I can say is they'd better include balancing.

Another Generation of Loony Toons Fans

My son officially asked me why the coyote is chasing roadrunner over the weekend. One of the great questions of all time. When I told some of the Probe staffers, they were their usual spunky selves and did a whole philosophical and sociological evaluation of the coyote's endless pursuit.

I'm just waiting to see if one of them somehow ends up as a Probe article.

2000+ Hits

Wow, did we ever get some great traffic from being mentioned in the Linky & Dinky weekend mailing. Over 2000 hits on Sunday, and close to 2000 on Monday. It was so great to be popular! I think our position as the first entry on the list helped us out. I knew when I get their newsletters I often only click on the story at the top.

So I'll be kind and in return point you here, in case you are looking to join an interesting twice-weekly mailing list.

Dinotopia (includes a semi-spoiler)

Wanted to do a quick check-in before the 2nd and 3rd nights of this show are on. My son and I gave it a thumbs down. Junior asked if we could watch something else, which is saying something. Most 4-year-old boys are very much in love with Dinosaurs. But this was a love story that happened to have some fairly mean dinos involved. I'll stick with the Land Before Time videos for now, I guess, when we need a Dino fix. Or maybe the Flintstone's Viva Rock Vegas. He seems to like that one. He thinks Wilma is "very pretty. I like her the best of all." Someone notify the Powerpuff Girls that they have been replaced in his heart. For today.

So now I don't know what to do. Do I record all six hours, on the chance he might like it better some other night? Or are my instincts dead on? Because I have to tell you, the writing/acting in this one isn't what I had hoped. At least not in the first hour.

p.s. Four-year-olds aren't really keen on movies that show a parent drowning. Thanks yet AGAIN Disney, not only for killing off the parent, but actually practically showing him drown. At seven o'clock on a Sunday.
