Uh oh. I started writing this on Dec 31 as the last Dump of the year, and then I wasn't able to finish it, so it will have to be the first Dump of 2002. Sorry about that. I'll try harder next December 31. On the other hand, I'll leave what I had written as if it was last night.
Another Year, Another Dump
As I sit here typing, my husband is wrestling my son to bed for the last time in 2001. (Wow, I started typing 1999 just now. Where did that come from?) Unless he wakes up again soon and we need to go back up.
I'm glad it's not me tonight. It sounds like a sports arena up there right now. Yes, it's another fun New Year's Eve at the DumpHouse. We haven't gone out for NYE for years now. At least since Mookie was due (I was 39 weeks pregnant on New Year's Eve in 1997). Probably before that we got together with my sister. The last time we went OUT out was to a hotel party, and it was horrible. Sure, we had a nice room, but the dinner was like attending a wedding except without the bride and groom, and you didn't know anyone else in the place. Either it was a bad experience, or I'm just not cut out for that kind of thing. I'd rather stay in, anyway. Last year we didn't bother staying up. I don't think we will this year either. When the stories are done we'll pop in a movie and maybe have a glass or wine or a beer, but that's about it. Fun couple are we!
Fairly OddParents Still
I've now seen the Fairly OddParents Holiday Special five or six times. I've got it nearly memorized. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.
I'm also champing at the bit for some new Spongebob episodes. I think I'm going to have to poke around on some fan sites to find out what the schedule is for some new stuff.
The Christmas Story
I got one page of the Christmas story finished. It was about banjo-playing dog named Bingo, and his owner Mr. Netherlands. Sorry I can't put it all here but I didn't finish it, y'know?
My Fantasy Film
I joined the fantasy film league competition for spring 2002 (registration closed yesterday) and I plan to rake in the big bucks. My movie is called "Big DumpTruck of Death" and is directed by Penny Marshall. It stars Christian Bale, Jack Black, George Clooney, William H Macy, Julianne Moore, and Billy Bob Thornton.
I wonder what the movie is about, and which of those guys ends up with Julianne Moore? I think I'll pair her with Jack Black, just to piss off the other guys. I couldn't pair her with Christian Bale cause in my head he will forever be Laurie in Little Women, and I don't want to break up his marriage to Amy March.
So the way this works, is that there is a database with all the "available" actors and actresses in it, and at the end of every week, the people running the site enter box-office data for all current movies. If any of my actors or my director are in a movie that makes money, it gets added to my total. You pick your cast with a budget of $70 - and I believe the rates you pay for the actors is based on their current going rate. So that's why you don't have a movie with 5 top actors in it. You can't afford it.
I Love Tivo. I DO.
Santa brought the DumpDriver a new Tivo! The other one IS fixable, for the right amount of cash, but my parents got me a new one for LESS than it would cost to fix the other one (cause there was a rebate). Hot dang, I'm back in business! I sat there the other day and picked out about 20 hours worth of movies from HBO and Starz, etc.
I am so excited that it's back. It's so cool to not be stuck watching whatever's on just to watch something. Now when I tell my son he can watch one program before bed, he'll have his choice of some mom-approved favorites. Like Maisy, Little Bill, or the Daily Show.
