I Guess I Passed

Had my "status report" with a guy from the Department of Employment and Training, and I think he was impressed with my "Job Hunt Spreadsheet" and my brochure for BirchBark. He asked if he could keep it. He also pointed me to a place where I can sign up as a minority/woman-owned company, in case there are government contracts looking for that. Hey, I'm not going to turn down a job just because I'm not sure minorities and women-owned businesses should get preferential treatment.

Anyway, this means I get to stay on unemployment for what, 12 or 14 more weeks? I think that's how many I have left before the original 30 run out. But while I'm in startup mode, I have to do what I can. Okay, enough about BirchBark for today. I've been printing brochures and I've seen enough of it. If you want more info, the link to the web page is officially linked in the right-hand column.

Saving Whalom

I heard two runners in the Boston Marathon are going to wear "Save Whalom" signs on their backs! That's so cool. The bummer news is that the Tumblebug was dismantled, sold to Edaville Railroad in Carver MA. I have a feeling I'm going to have to take a trip down there this summer. Mookie will LOVE it, and I'll get to take another spin on the tumblebug. I think he road it the last time we went, but jeez, he would have only been two and a half. Did I let him ride it?

Oh, and no, I'm not running in the marathon this year. It just wouldn't be fair to all the other competitors, you know? They would see these legs, exposed to air and sunlight, and would have to drop out of the race. Plus, I heard it might rain Monday. I don't do rain.

Finger Update

It's good. The stitches are out, and it's ugly, but it's functioning. So do I put on nail polish, which might attract attention to my hands so it's more noticeable or not. I thought I could bleed at least another week or two of sympathy out of this.

Kidding.

What on Earth Is Up with Cherry Hill?

I've been saving my dimes all winter to go to Cherry Hill and get that first cone of the season...and they aren't open yet! I have this on good authority from my four-year-old, who often goes to play in the field next to the stand with his daycare provider. (I hear they kids like to roll down the hill. Kids never change, do they?)

I asked "Hey, Mookie, is Cherry Hill open?" (I'm not sure he's savvy enough to know the answer.)

"You know where the window is to order ice cream? All the picnic tables are right next to the window." Ah, he is savvy. They haven't put the tables out yet. So they block the windows. It does make it easy to see if they are ready for the season or not.

So that was, um, Monday. This weekend is a long weekend in Massachusetts, so I'm going to guess that they will open tomorrow or Saturday. And if they aren't, I'll go drown my sorrows at Fweedom Wings.

The List

Things I Should Do This [Long] Weekend

  • Put out the deck furniture. I said I was going to do that earlier this week, but I didn't. Bad me.
  • Rake. Rake and rake. Darned grubs have turned my yard into a festival of dead grass.
  • Help dad put up my flagpole. Maybe he'll let me help him mix the cement, if I ask nicely.
  • Put down GrubX or Scott's 1 or whatever goes down now. (See bullet 2)
  • Fire up the grill, or at least see if I still have gas in the tank.
  • Gloat because my taxes are already done. (Thanks Tom!)
