Goodbye, 1900'sThe 1900s have been very very good to me. I was born in them. I have lived all of my life to this point in them. I am typing this in them. However, in another 3.5 days, they will be gone. Forever. I don't know if I took full advantage of the fact that I was living in a year that began with the number 1. I'm not sure what I would have done differently, but I'm sure I squandered the "one"-ness of my life to date. And now I've got less than 4 days before the only century I've ever known snaps shut like Tinky Winky's magic bag. I just hope that the years beginning with the number 2 have a little magic in them. I suspect they will. Wish List UpdateBill and Melinda Gates didn't come through for me. I'm really disappointed in them. How hard would it be to just click on my Amazon.com wish list link and put their debit card number in the appropriate spot? I do have to tell you all that I received an item from my wish list. From my husband. It actually amused the hell out of me, and I'm now going to go back and erase all the books and CDs and just fill the list with jewelry and electronics. Hey, my birthday is coming up. Shouldn't I help him? Archives on FatBrainI am in the middle of compiling all the archives from 1996 through 1998 and putting them on fatbrain.com as "eMatter". For those of you unfamiliar, I suggest you poke around over there. Not only do they have a really EXCELLENT selection of high tech books, the eMatter section is all stuff created by ANYONE and downloadable in .pdf format for a price decided on by the author, who gets 1/2 the profit as commission. So if I price the archives at $5, and some dude wanders buy and downloads it, I'll get $2.50. Pretty decent, eh? Don't look for it yet, because I'm only up to February 1997. But I'm working on it. Oh, and if you are a loyal fan of the Dump, just drop me a line and I'll send you a free copy of the archive file. I don't need your money that badly. But trust me, I'm going to delete this part of this issue in about 2 weeks so that any NEW fans who want to read the archives will have to open up their eWallets to buy my eMatter. Y2K IdiotsIf the world falls apart on Jan 1st, I'll be the first to apologize and allow certain individual to say "I told you so". But I just don't think the world is going to fall apart, and I say that as someone on the office Y2K team. On the other hand, Keith was at Brook's Pharmacy tonight and there was a woman FILLING a shopping cart with about 40 cans of formula. He actually got so annoyed with her (in general) that he said something to her and got her to put some of the cans back. Okay, assuming she's buying the ready mixed, those puppies are $4+ a can. He estimated that she had 30 cans (put back 10) so that's a nice $120 worth of formula. Well, at least it won't go bad. She can stock her bomb shelter. End of a Short EraWell, the ear tubes have fallen out and Michael has his first ear infection since his surgery last March. Boy, have I not missed this at ALL! And the poor thing is really feeling it. Back when he got them every other week he was so used to it that it wasn't a big deal. Well, after 9 months ear-pain free, he's just miserable, poor thing. I highly recommend the ear tubes as an alternative to dosing antibiotics over and over and over again. I certainly wish we had done it 6 months earlier than we did. But it is major surgery after all, so weigh the risks for yourself. Back to BoringAnd just like THAT [insert sound of snapping fingers] we're back to the same old same old on television. I mean, in the blink of an eye, the 24 hour A Christmas Story marathon is over. Well, that was was over in a long blink, but you know what I mean. No more Olsen Twins in matching coats looking for reindeer or whatever they do in all those specials. No more Claymation. I guess it's just that it's all so sudden. One minute AMC (American Movie Classics), one of my favorite channels, is showing Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol (I kid you not) and the next they are back to showing more traditional "classics". Gene Tierney stuff, as opposed to Jim Backus in cartoon form. Road hog! The tally, for those counting, of my Christmas Carol viewings is: The ListFavorite Paint Colors - for the inside walls of the house
