Kicking Up Little Thought Pebbles at Your Windshield
Our Living Room - The Center of the Universe
I have to tell you...I didn't find out our living room was the center of the universe until this week. I had an inkling, but it was not confirmed. We live in a relatively small cape (the kind Architectural Digest refers to as a "servants cottage" that is fine for the two of us. We have three rooms down, 3 up, with 1.5 baths. So far, so good. One of the bedrooms was our "office" but it is the warmest room in the house in the summer so the computer came downstairs last May or June, and hasn't been back since. The original reason was to put it in air conditioned space. But it turns out that we use it a lot more now that it's in a high traffic area. And if you lean way back in the chair you can see the TV. And you can sneak into some Usenet groups while you're cooking dinner.
The high traffic area thing seems to be the key. I am not particularly fond of locking myself up in the spare room, at least not all the time. We don't really go upstairs to do anything except sleep. So earlier this week we hit that point where we might as well be in an apartment. Keith lugged the treadmill down to the living room. It had been in the same room as the computer, along with 4000 books, many many papers, and my guitar case. (The bedroom that the kids use when they visit really is a bedroom at this point, except for the ironing board.) The junk remains, but the two things we might have used on a regular basis, the computer and the treadmill, are now in the living room. Which is where we usually are. I think the bed will probably come down next.
Dole Banana Number 4011
I apparently ate Dole banana number 4011 yesterday. It was a Costa Rican banana, according to the little sticker. I never bothered much with the country of origin of my bananas. I suppose I always assumed that the Chicquita Banana lady would look out for my health and well-being. But this sticker had more than the "Dole" logo and the words "Costa Rica". In big print it said "#4011". Banana 4011? Bunch 4011? Tree 4011?
If anyone from the Dole company is our there reading right now, first of all, loved the tour of the plant on Oahu. Second, banana 4011 was particularly fresh and tasty. Good work.
Supertramp
For all you Supertramp fans out there, and I know you know who you are, the impossible has happened. Like the "remaining" Beatles before them, they have regrouped. Is it a cold day in hell? Hmmm. Well, boys, I am willing to take the long way home for you once again. A new album (!) is due in stores the last week of March. I will be standing there with a smile on my face and a gift certificate in my hand ready to pick that puppy up.
Keith L: Marketing Major
We got the good news this week that Keith was formally accepted into the Bentley Marketing program! I am married to a college student! He starts classes in May. I wonder if this will change him. Do you think he'll want to live in one of the dorms?
