Tossing Little Thought Pebbles at Your Windshield
1997
If forced, I suppose I could admit to making a couple of New Year's resolutions, but that would be a lie. I didn't. I could make one now. Would that count? Okay, my resolution will be to update The Big Dump Truck at least 3 times a month. If not more. And I promise to try to keep the rest of the Utter Uselessness web site fresh and exciting. Or at least fresh. You can drop me a note if you think I'm slacking off.
Emeril Is a Popular Guy
I love having an Emeril Lagasse fan page here on my little corner of the web. The funny thing is the amount of mail I've received related to this page. One was written in spanish. That was cool. Luckily the writer included a translation of his message. A couple, which have confused me, have been from people who thought [maybe?] that they were corresponding with Emeril himself. I'm sorry to say that I have no direct connection to our favorite chef. I'm actually more likely to run into Julia Child (who lives 15 minutes or so from where I work) than I am to Emeril. I need to send notes to the fine readers who sent these messages, so they won't think Emeril is a jerk who doesn't read his mail. I'm sure he would, if he could.
Going to the Library
The Leominster Library is open on Saturdays from 9 to 5 and I think I'm going to head over there this afternoon. I'm currently reading Sense and Sensibility (by Jane Austin, silly!) and I can't figure out how the word "sensibility" applies. Marianne is not sensible, so she must be sensibility. I need to get a copy of the OED and figure this out. Because I don't have a personal copy of the OED, I'm going assume my tax dollars give me access to one. (If they don't, I'll write a letter to the editor of the local paper. That should get someone to the book store.) I should add that this is the first time I've ever read this particular book, and I saw the movie last year when it came out. That movie was so close to the book that I can't help but picture all those actors and actresses while I'm reading. I think that might be a bad thing.
Colored Pencils
I attended a seminar last week on Visual Communication by the MacroVU company. I got a free set of colored pencils, and a free box of Crayola magic markers. That really makes it all worthwhile. I think every seminar should give out free colored pencils and magic markers. I was going to take some time this weekend to do a little sketching, but you won't be able to enjoy any of it, because I don't have a scanner. If anyone out there has a scanner they don't want any more, why don't you just give me a yell and I'll give you an address where you can mail that puppy.
