New Year's Resolutions

I resolve that this year I'm going to make resolutions. By at least April.

Ice, Ice Baby

Every time we get one of these cold snaps, and I think "snaps" is too chipper a word to describe the hellish, bone aching, nose hair-shattering cold we currently have,I wonder why I live here. I know my husband asks himself that constantly. I love spring and fall in New England, wouldn't miss it for anything. But Winter can be an ugly nightmare and summer often has stretches that aren't much better. Well, they aren't as cold.

I know some of you will be tempted to send me an email telling me how the weather is just perfect where you live, but I don't think that it will be very easy to change my mind. Unless you've got a job lined up for me that pays, oh, let's just ballpark 100k a year.  Anyone willing to make me that offer (guaranteed for at least 2 years) can have me.

My condolences to the Midwest and all other areas that got sucker-punched this weekend by the first storm of 1999. We got rain rain rain all day, and most of it froze everywhere. Luckily it wasn't one of those tree-bending storms for us, but our driveway is a great place to skate.

Recommended Reading

I got Keith a really cool book for Christmas, and I thought I'd share it with you because both of us love it SO much. It's called Sesame Street Unpaved, and the subtitle tells it all "scripts, stories, secrets and songs."  Did you know that Oscar the Grouch was originally orange? And they they never intended for the Muppets to interact with the humans who lived on Sesame Street, just to be in the filler bits between those sketches? It's REALLY fascinating stuff, especially for those of us born near or after 1969, when it all began. Here's a little sample of Kermit dialog that appears in the book.  He's talking to Bob McGrath:

Kermit: Good Heavens! What's that!

Bob: It's an American Bullfrog, Kermit

Kermit: I'm more handsome than I realized.

One Year Later

I can't believe it's been a year (Jan 6th) since a third person started living at our house. Where is my little baby? The one with the full head of hair and the not-blue eyes and the angry crying gas-face?  He's an energetic little one-year-old with killer blue eyes and a smile that gets him a million smooches a day. He likes to play with his blocks and watch Teletubbies (I wonder how many hours he'd watch them in a row if we let him?)

Is every year with him going to go by this fast?
